Risk management:
Our risk management program in construction is designed to plan, monitor, and control those
measures needed to prevent exposure to risk. To do this it is necessary to identify the hazard,
assess the extent of the risk, provide measures to control the risk and manage any residual risks.
Haskell’s Risk Management department is the liaison between insurance claims that occur and
the company’s sureties – brokers and carriers that guarantee Haskell’s performance and
obligations to the project owners.

By joining during the design process, the CMAR helps proactively avoid pitfalls and ensure
constructability.
When employing the Construction Manager at Risk approach to project delivery, the owner
contracts directly with architects and engineers but typically retains the contractor when design
development is preliminary. In this arrangement, the CMAR provides advisory management
assistance to the owner during the preconstruction phase, offering schedule, budget and
constructability advice during project planning and design. The AE firm and contractor typically
work together during the design phase to proactively address potential issues associated with
constructability.
